The Bucktails were a volunteer unit in the American Civil War and famed for wearing ''bucktails'' around their hats. They were mustered in Pennsylvania on June 21, 1861 and fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg.
The Bucktails carried breech-loading Model 1859 Sharps Rifles, normally only issued to sharpshooters.
